The University of Ottawa is undertaking a project to strengthen and expand the offer of postsecondary programs in French in Ontario and the rest of Canada. The University of Ottawa will develop courses in the fields of engineering, medicine, and management. To achieve this goal, the project will require a dynamic team of professionals with various expertise and experience such as Project Managers, Educational Development and Digital Learning Specialists, Web Developers, UI/UX Design Specialists, and Multimedia Design Developers.

Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Director, Innovative Pedagogies and Digital Learning, creates and optimizes academic web content by using a variety of graphics, animation and other software in order to meet the needs of the client. The incumbent designs, develops, implements and maintains Websites, multimedia and other academic content. Develops and maintains online educational resources and tools that are used in the Faculty’s various academic programs and curricula. The creative aspect of the position is overlaid by a technical competence in Web design. The incumbent provides fresh interactive Web solutions in order to ensure client satisfaction.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Web Design: Collaborates with subject matter experts, instructional designers and team members to convert technical requirements, storyboards and content into various types of online academic activities (courses, modules, videos, assessments). Leverages existing tools and technologies and follows pre-existing templates that will best support the client’s needs. Ensures quality work is performed in adherence with the University’s policies and standards.
  • Web Development: Creates dynamic Web pages and Web-based tools that can be used on any type of server and can be viewed using any type of browser. Performs design and content updates to existing websites, academic content and online educational tools when requested by clients.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Analyzes and diagnoses the causes of Web-based problems or bugs and carries out the required repair actions in order to maintain the Faculty’s academic web tools and curricula for clients.
  • Technical Advice and Collaboration: Provides advice on appropriate design concepts, technical requirements and other web and multimedia design tools to optimize functionality and to ensure the University is using the best possible medium to communicate with internal and external clients. Exchanges expertise with colleagues and peers to promote the use and acceptance of the University’s branding to ensure consistent and user-friendly design of all Web and academic tools.
