Underwriting Assistant

 

Description:

The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for entering new business applications, policy change requests, and cancellations into the insurer portals, including some underwriting, rating and coverage recommendations. In addition, you will order reports on behalf of the brokers, and entering client information into Xpress and Xuber (our Policy Management System). Review and enter new business application and policy change submissions and follow up with brokers on outstanding information to complete processing in insurer portals Obtain client payment schedules, loss runs from insurer portal for brokers Advise brokers of quote/premium differences Enter all required client information into Policy Management system to ensure appropriate documentation Develop proficiency with insurer portal and underwriting requirements, including endorsements and limits Ensure full understanding of service level agreements of both Aon and the insurance companies on portal processing Maintain quality controls and check work for accuracy Raise difficult/complex items, and customer complaints or inquiries to the appropriate team leader as required Various projects as required directed by Manager

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Educational Requirements A university degree is preferred; other education and/or equivalent work experience will also be considered Accounting/financial course completion considered a strong asset Insurance course/degree program an asset CIP, FCIP & CRM desirable Bilingualism (English & French) is desirable
Experience Minimum 2 years experience with accurate data processing, including proficiency in keying information with accuracy and adequate speed and the use of basic Microsoft applications General Knowledge of all areas of general insurance coverage is an asset Ability to shift between priorities, as needed, throughout the workday while maintaining an established level of efficiency using time-management techniques Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills Strong analytical, mathematical, decision making, negotiation and presentation skills High level of digital literacy, with a focus on MS Word, Excel and Outlook Ability to learn and understand technical matters quickly Some accounts payable and receivables experience would be helpful Strong teamwork and the self-motivation to complete administrative tasks on time and to a high standard Adaptability, resilience and flexibility are important, under-pinned by a strong work ethic Accounting or financial reconciliation experience
