Train Service Design Manager

At ONxpress Transportation Partners, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) we’re responsible for Service Planning and Design. That means we’ll develop service plans that will guide GO-rail operations for years to come. We’ll build service plans around the complexities of daily operation – passenger demand, fleet and crew availability, construction windows; and will continually improve them, because no one likes a late train. As Service Design Manager you’ll operationalise our Train Service Plans. You’ll lead a team of TSP Specialists to transform service concepts into daily schedules that connect communities better and faster. This will involve interfacing with our Rail Corridor Access teams, third parties, and accommodating special events.

 

Responsibility

You'll help develop a team that can deliver the annual timetabling process, lead the operationalization of our TSPs, and gear us up for launch day. Here are some of the specific activities you’ll be doing:

 

  • Establishing and owning the annual service planning process, and its interfaces with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring that operational plans provide more frequent service while optimising for operability, costs, resource usage, and passenger demand.
  • Hiring, developing, and leading TSP Specialists: timetablers, crew and equipment planners, and simulation experts.
  • Leading workload allocation and resource management for your team.
  • You will help build the culture of a new team and organization. By identifying ways, we can improve our TSP processes, and by supporting your team, you’ll foster an open and aspirational culture.

 

Competencies

  • Experience in Train Service Planning, or equivalent work experience in other areas of transportation
  • An understanding of railway planning and operations principles including, but not limited to:
  • Any knowledge of timetabling, crewing, rolling-stock planning, and/or rail simulation.
  • Any knowledge of service planning software such as Viriato, TrainPlan, Hastus, IVU, etc.
  • An ability to work quickly and accurately to deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong analytical and creative skills to work in a dynamic environment and solve problems as they arise
  • A collaborative mindset to work within a team of 10 - 20 colleagues.
