Description:
The Technical Advisor provides technical assistance and support for the websites related to Humber Journalism's various publications. This includes managing domain/hosting services, updating core website functionality, managing users/access, and setting up new websites for faculty use in classroom settings. The role is part-time, requiring approximately 20 hours per week.

Education
Undergraduate diploma or degree in a related field. A journalism credential is not required.
Experience/Skills
- Experience in a newsroom setting (including university press newsrooms) is an asset.
- Web development experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign.
- Experience with content management systems and online reporting tools.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve software and online service issues.
- Familiarity with managing domain and hosting services.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
Key Duties
- Website Management:
- Provide technical help, assistance, and support for websites related to Humber Journalism's many publications, including Et Cetera, Skedline, Convergence Magazine, Scribe Magazine and newsletters.
- Assist faculty and students with updating Humberetc.ca.
- Oversee domain and hosting services.
- Update and maintain core website functionality.
- Manage user access and permissions.
- Set up new websites for faculty use in classroom settings.
- Support for Students and Faculty:
- Provide support for students and faculty in using WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite (with an emphasis on InDesign), Villager (newsroom Content Management System), PDF hosting sites such as Issuu and MagCloud, and various mobile/browser-based reporting tools.
- Track and report technical issues to the appropriate departments (college IT department for hosting issues, Village Media for Humberetc.ca).
- Consult with other parties (including other programs and work-study students) who are partnering with journalism for special projects.
- Administrative and Clerical Duties:
- Maintain passwords and logins, ensuring account renewals and access for subscription services used by programs.
- Submit student work for awards on an annual basis.
- Organize and control access to internal and online newsroom shared storage space.
- Archive and organize student publications and share with groups such as Humber Libraries and FMCA Current.
- Monitor submissions, including letters to the editor, news tips, press releases, typo reports, offensive comments, and spam in the HumberETC.ca classified ads system.
- Serve as the point of contact for community partners (other campus departments) to post listings and updates to the campus directory on HumberETC.ca
