Summer Student – Program Assistant

 

Description:

March of Dimes Canada is a leading national charity dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to live and thrive in communities across Canada. We are currently hiring a Program Assistant (Summer Student) to support key initiatives, including:
Adult Day Program for people with brain injuries
After Stroke Virtual Programs
Philanthropy events and stakeholder engagement
Marketing and communications support

This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event coordination, community support, and administrative work while making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

🎨 Event & Program Support:

  • Assist in organizing the Arts and Crafts Show for the Adult Day Program in Victoria.
  • Support service users in creating artwork and preparing invitations and promotional materials.
  • Provide general assistance in the Adult Day Program to ensure smooth delivery of services.

📝 Administrative & Office Support:

  • Perform general office duties, including mailing, responding to inquiries, and data entry.
  • Use Microsoft Office 365 to create reports, memos, and documents.

💻 Marketing & Fundraising:

  • Assist in organizing and implementing Step Up for Stroke 2025, a national virtual fundraiser.
  • Support promotion, outreach, and administration for After Stroke events.
  • Research and update the national resource database.
  • Help with virtual program delivery by assisting meeting facilitators and compiling statistics.

Minimum Requirements:

Enrolled in or completion of post-secondary education in a related field
Strong communication and writing skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Eligibility Criteria:

This position is part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program and requires candidates to:
🔹 Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
🔹 Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
🔹 Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
🔹 International students are not eligible.
