Description:
Reporting to the Director of Facilities/ Designate, and under the daily guidance of other maintenance staff as assigned, the Labourer is responsible for providing unskilled services in any area of the department; and working as a member of a team to ensure the timely resolution of general district Facilities requirements, in accordance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- assists trades with a variety of facilities problems as required (e.g. carries materials, sweeps and cleans)
- unloads, loads, transports and delivers furniture, equipment and materials to and from sites
- assembles, disassembles and moves furniture when necessary (e.g. for examinations); removes and replaces damaged furniture; moves/ carries boxes or other school supplies
- delivers and sets up folding tables and chairs; assists with loading, delivery and assembly of staging and lighting for school productions
- performs minor maintenance duties and routine repairs (e.g. furniture, etc.)
- cleans, checks/ confirms operational safety and performs routine maintenance on working equipment on a daily basis
- cuts grass; clears, slashes and cuts brush and growth; performs winter clean-ups (e.g. raking)
- salts, sands, clears ice and snow, sweeps, blows and removes general debris and branches from grounds, catchment basins, storm sewer areas, parking lots and sidewalks
- responds to operational emergency situations(including off-hours calls)
- operates basic maintenance tools (e.g. hammer, saw, drill, weedeaters, lawn mower)
- performs other comparable duties as assigned which are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description
