Description:
The Social Media and Events Coordinator, with the Indigenous Student Affairs will provide cultural, social, and academic content for the Indigenous Student Learning Centre at Laurentian University. The Events and Media Coordinator will also connect with the Laurentian and surrounding communities via social media that promote wellness, career opportunities, Elder teachings as well as The Indigenous Student Affairs and Laurentian University upcoming activities and events.
Reporting to the Director of Indigenous Student Affairs, the successful candidate will:
- Oversee planning, coordination and execution of Indigenous Student Affairs events;
- Collaborate with staff in Indigenous Student Affairs and Indigenous Programs to ensure the effective delivery of events and programs;
- Mentor and supervise event volunteers in providing standards, direction and support for events;
- Manage all event set-up, tear down and follow-up processes;
- Develop processes to improve the event planning and implementation process
- Provide support and assistance in planning and developing event marketing and communications materials
- Oversee ISLC room/space bookings
- Develop social media content plans that are consistent with the Indigenous Student Affairs’ mission and values;
- Create, monitor and manage social media posts that are consistent and meaningful on all social media platforms utilized by Indigenous Student Affairs;
- Use Laurentian University analytical tools to monitor and evaluate Indigenous Student Affairs’s media presence;
- Suggest recommendations to adjust the social media strategy for optimal results;
- Remain current on best practices and emerging trends in social media;
- Other duties as required by the Director, Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre.
Qualifications
- University degree required;
- We are seeking First Nation, Métis, or Inuit candidates with a strong knowledge of Indigenous cultures, communities, customs, practices, and communication styles;
- Several years of social media experience including planning and managing content;
- Marketing skills and event planning are an asset.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills essential;
- Excellent knowledge of computer applications (MS Word, Powerpoint, & Excel at a minimum);
- Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.
