Description:
Metrolinx, a leading transit authority connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead and manage medium to large-scale projects within its PRESTO Payments Division Project Management Office (PMO). This is a long-term contract position, up to 2 years, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the most globally advanced electronic transit fare payment systems.

PRESTO is an electronic fare payment system that simplifies travel across multiple transit agencies in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton, and Ottawa areas. With over 5 million customers and more than 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic), PRESTO handles over $2.5 billion in fares annually. PRESTO continues to evolve by introducing innovative solutions like contactless payments via credit, Interac debit, and mobile wallet options.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the full project lifecycle of medium to large-scale PRESTO projects, ensuring alignment with Metrolinx policies, mandates, budget constraints, and timelines.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, transit agency partners, and vendors to define project scope, schedule, budgets, risks, and quality assurance processes.
- Partner with leading technology vendors to implement innovative payment solutions, ensuring seamless integration into the PRESTO ecosystem.
- Manage vendor and service provider relationships, including procurement processes and contractual negotiations.
- Monitor project progress, mitigate risks, and proactively resolve issues to ensure timely delivery within budget.
- Provide expert guidance to internal teams, coaching junior project managers on best practices related to project scope, budgets, schedules, risk, and quality management.
- Present regular project updates, performance reports, and recommendations to the PRESTO leadership team and partnering transit agencies.
- Represent Metrolinx and PRESTO at industry events, trade shows, and partner meetings to share project insights and learnings.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Extensive project management experience in IT, finance, or technology environments. Experience managing distributed multi-vendor transactional systems, financial systems, or mobile payment apps is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of project and program management methodologies, including budgeting, prioritization, risk management, and change management.
- Professional Engineer Ontario (P.Eng.) and Project Management Professional (PMP) designations are considered strong assets.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools to manage complex, multi-year projects.
- Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively advise executives and business stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience motivating cross-functional teams.
- Commercial acumen, including experience negotiating contracts and managing vendor performance.
