The Senior New Business Underwriting Account Manager is directly responsible for assessing the risk, calculating the pricing, and making decisions on the more complex New Business quotes sent in by National Account Consultants all across Canada.
The Senior New Business Underwriting Account Manager role is suited to the inquisitive individual who enjoys continuous learning and applying their knowledge in varied scenarios. You are a keen problem solver. You like to analyze intricate data and make decisions based on your analysis.

What You Will Do
- Assess risk on complex cases (size, financial arrangement, profile) to determine if the client is a good fit for Canada Life by considering industry, economic outlook, administrative requirements, financial arrangements and historical experience
- Develop compelling and financially sound proposals including pricing, funding arrangements, guarantees and investment
- Identify creative pricing approaches and demonstrate the advantages to senior management
- Provide a detailed explanation of our pricing methodology and provide the reasons behind our decisions
- Determine the return on capital as a measure of the client’s value (CVA)
- Provide thoughtful responses to the underwriting questions in the Request for Proposal (RFP)
- Support the implementation of successful new business clients and support the transition of new business to the renewal underwriting teams
- Initiate process improvements and work on projects that will streamline our processes or assist with our decisions
- Provide mentoring and guidance to team members
What You Will Bring
- 3-5 years of underwriting experience
- You have post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- You’re curious and inquisitive. You love math!
- You get energized when you work in partnership with team members and you do this with your excellent interpersonal skills
- In depth knowledge of Group Benefits products, pricing and funding arrangements
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills – Applies a structured approach to identify and analyze options including internal and external risks and impacts, seeks diverse perspectives and uses insights for decision making
