As our business grows as part of the energy transition, we are looking to hire strategic and results-driven business operations, business development and project lead professionals to join our Business Development and Strategy team to work on waterpower/ hydroelectric development projects. Responsible for driving long-term sustainable revenue growth by strategically developing and seeking out hydro development opportunities.
Overall, the accountabilities include providing leadership, strategy and support the operation and growth of OPG’s hydro electric business in achieving its goals and objectives.
Reporting to the Director, Business Development, the Senior Manager is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction while evaluating and developing new hydroelectric projects. In addition, they will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
kEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manage the conceptual and business development of projects, including potential partnership and economic participation structures.
- Provide strategic business and commercial advice, guidance, and support to the Director, Business Development on issues related to OPG's hydroelectric / waterpower business.
- Leverage commercial capabilities and knowledge in the industry, to provide commercial strategic direction and oversee and coordinate the development of any new and potential business opportunities.
- Build and maintain key relationships with external stakeholders and partners throughout business development and project lifecycles.
- Identify alternative opportunities and projects in the hydro /waterpower developments, policy, market opportunities, etc. Coordinate with internal stakeholders in reviewing and preparing project business cases.
- Identify, develop, and implement partnerships for the waterpower / hydroelectric development team.
- Develop commercial and financial analyses of potential opportunities to make recommendations around priority growth opportunities for the business.
- Coordinate with key stakeholders across OPG to drive prioritization on what opportunities should be pursued.
- Negotiate commercial arrangements and contracts for new developments/projects and new business opportunities.
- Assess risks and opportunities related to commercial developments, agreements and contracts.
- Work with lawyers, internal stakeholders, and external advisors as appropriate in conducting due diligence reviews and building agreements and contracts, which advance OPG’s interests.
- Direct the conceptual development and definition of development projects and new business opportunities. Develop strategic proposals for consideration by senior management. Direct cross-functional teams on any new engagements and projects.
- Participate on project teams to integrate the commercial aspects of each project throughout its lifecycle including project costs, revenue mechanisms, and financing to ensure that the risks of each project are understood and managed.
- Provide professional leadership; manage and supervise staff, provide leadership, coaching and mentoring, ensure that staff seek out best practices, develop their skills to benefit OPG to meet current needs and for succession planning in the organization.
- In addition, maintain and develop relationships in the waterpower industry with; construction and technology vendors, waterpower associations, financial partners, indigenous and local communities, and other stakeholders who play a crucial role in developing waterpower resources in Ontario.
