Senior Legal Counsel

Our Corporate Finance division includes over 50 diverse individuals, including 10 lawyers who are focused on public and private offerings, continuous disclosure, mergers and acquisitions, investment funds and TSXV oversight.

As Senior Counsel, you will work collaboratively with our local team and with professionals from across the country to develop local and national rules and policies for the capital markets in Alberta and Canada. You will be given unique opportunities to work on novel or unusual legal issues and have a real influence on the development of securities legislation and policies.

Key responsibilities include::

  • Providing legal input and analysis, in addition to providing advice and recommendations on various legal matters to executive management, and the Commission Members (Board of Directors)
  • Reviewing applications for exemptive relief from securities laws and prospectuses for shelf offerings.
  • Leading or participating on committees with colleagues from across Canada to:
    • research and analyze securities law policy issues;
    • reach a national consensus on novel and emerging issues, while representing and advocating for the interests of Alberta’s capital markets;
    • engage and consult with issuers, professional advisors and other market participants; and
    • research and monitor innovative initiatives and provide analysis, advice and recommendations as to the impact, adoption, or handling of such initiatives.
  • Drafting legal memos summarizing relevant areas of law and new developments.
  • Presenting policy recommendations to the ASC executive committees and Commission Members.
