Senior Financial Accountant

 

Description:

AIC is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to join their Finance team. This position is critical in ensuring the integrity of the organization’s financial reporting and accounting functions. The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, including financial statements, tax filings, and covenant calculations. In addition to overseeing the work of junior team members, the individual will also help implement improvements in workflow, training, and technological tools.

This position requires a candidate with a strong understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting, especially in the context of the investment industry. A background in mutual funds, private equity, or family office environments would be highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a quality control reviewer, ensuring accuracy and compliance of work performed by Accountants and the Accounts Payable Clerk.

  • Prepare and review interim and year-end financial statements, including supporting notes, tax provisions, and financial covenant calculations.

  • Oversee and contribute to tax filings (e.g., HST, QST, Corporate Income Tax, Trust Income Tax, T5013), including managing queries from Tax Authorities.

  • Compile audit schedules and address questions from external auditors during the year-end process.

  • Lead or support departmental initiatives aimed at enhancing workflow, improving technology use, and increasing training effectiveness.

  • Actively mentor and guide junior accounting team members, promoting a collaborative and efficient team environment.

  • Participate in regular team meetings to support policy updates, problem-solving, and team-building efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Designation: CPA required.

  • Education: Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Software Experience: Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is highly desirable.

  • Tax Skills: Experience with tax returns and queries from tax authorities is a strong asset.

  • Candidates with deeper tax expertise may be considered for a Tax Specialist role with adjusted responsibilities.
