The Bank of Canada is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Senior Economist or Senior Analyst (SEF) to contribute to Canada’s economic and financial well-being. As a Senior Economist or Analyst, you will conduct advanced analysis and research in areas such as monetary policy, financial system stability, public debt and reserve management, and the issuance and distribution of Canadian banknotes. You will also collaborate with internal departments and external institutions, both in Canada and internationally.
Contribute to the formulation and implementation of monetary policy and financial system oversight.
Conduct high-quality, peer-review-ready research in macroeconomics, monetary economics, digital currencies, financial markets, international economics, labour economics, and other related fields.
Provide expert policy analysis and briefings to senior management.
Lead or participate in multidisciplinary research projects within a matrix environment.
Collaborate with national and international institutions, including central banks, financial market participants, and academics.
Build and maintain external research networks and contribute to the broader economic research community.
PhD in Economics or Finance (completed after January 1, 2016, or expected by end of 2024).
Proven research capabilities with potential for publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals.
Expertise in at least one key area of economic research aligned with the Bank’s responsibilities.
Strong writing skills and ability to create influential research and policy documents.
Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within teams.
Creative thinking and innovation in research and problem-solving.
Advanced analytical and quantitative research skills, including empirical analysis and modeling.
English or French essential (written and oral proficiency required in one).
Monthly Salary: CAD 9233 to 12312 (Annual: CAD 110800 to 147750)
Hiring Bonus: Up to 30% of base salary, paid over four installments.
Performance-Based Bonus: Up to 20% of base salary.
