Description:
We are seeking a Senior Advisor to join our Digital, Brand & Content (DCB) team at Cenovus. Reporting to the Manager, Digital Brand & Content, the successful candidate will work to enhance Cenovus’s reputation through effective content strategies and storytelling.
This dynamic role will be responsible for driving our digital content strategy externally, supporting our advertising campaigns, continuously improving our company website and creating engaging and effective written and visual content for use on all external platforms, in close partnership with our team of advisors and internal partners.
The successful candidate requires senior-level writing, communications planning, brand, consulting and digital communication skills; as well as the ability to build positive relationships with vendors (i.e. graphic design, advertising, research), peers, executives and subject matter authorities.
This position is based in our downtown Calgary, Alberta office.
Responsibilities:
External content strategy & planning
Lead our external content strategy, in partnership with our Communications teams and internal clients.
Identify strategic themes for content (stories, videos, etc.) to share externally and align with our annual Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement business plan.
Lead our external content plans and calendar, ensure continuous development and publication of original content.
Lead content committee of communications advisors in finding and writing stories.
Assess needs and opportunities at recurring meetings and handle issues, as required.
Support and assess digital measurement reporting and content audits to advise our external content, social media and digital strategies.
Help ensure content goals are met each month and year with an emphasis on quality over quantity, advancing digital audience growth, engagement and retention within key audiences, collaborators and markets.
Content development
Write, edit and coordinate company stories to achieve external and internal communications goals.
Develop story leads and create visual and written content for Cenovus’s digital communication channels (i.e. web, video, social media).
Lead content updates and reviews by internal authorities (i.e. Legal, Health & Safety), as required.
Act as a web author and editor for the website, laying out stories and pages in our content management system.
Inform and assist with planning photo shoots, use expertise to continuously strengthen our brand and visual guidelines.
Advertising and marketing campaigns
Advise and support our company marketing and advertising campaigns, including driving advertising strategy, creating workback schedules, reviewing creative concepts, interpreting research and adjusting campaigns to meet company goals.
Work with third-party agencies (i.e. advertising, media buying, research).
Senior advisor
Advise and support internal teams/clients with their external communications needs, including company programs and projects that support our brand, purpose and values and business plans.
Act as Communications Lead on the emergency communications team on a rotating basis.
Qualifications:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma in communications or public relations or related education.
Minimum of seven years of experience in corporate or digital communications.
Exceptional writing and content development skills.
Specific experience in visual and digital communications.
Experience working on external, large-scale marketing or advertising campaigns.
Ability to multi-task and work on a wide variety of projects with multiple and competing deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
