Description:

Relying on your strong technical expertise and ability to work collaboratively and build consensus with others, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Analyze and resolve complex or novel financial reporting and assurance issues arising in the context of reviews of financial statements and other documents filed under the Ontario Securities Act.
  • Provide significant advisory services to staff from internal branches and offices on accounting and assurance matters, which may involve interacting with issuers, their auditors and advisors
  • Analyze and provide comments on proposed accounting and auditing standards that are issued for comment by domestic and international standard setters.
  • Participate on special projects pertaining to financial reporting and assurance matters, which may involve interaction with external parties, such as other provincial securities regulators or CPAB.
  • Communicate staff’s views on important financial reporting and assurance issues through publications and public speaking engagements.
  • Monitor and evaluate new and evolving trends and developments in financial reporting and assurance, including the activities of national and international standards-setting bodies, and provide information about these trends and developments to other OSC branches and accounting staff.

What do you need to be successful in this role

  • You are a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) in good standing
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience subsequent to obtaining designation as a CPA, CA.
  • You offer in-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) and Canadian Audit Standards (CASs).
  • You have financial reporting experience at a reporting issuer or as a member of the assurance practice of a public accounting firm.
  • You have demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and synthesize complex multi-dimensional financial reporting problems and provide sophisticated insights when proposing solutions.
  • You have an interest in the concepts and principles that underlie accounting and auditing standards and an ability to apply those concepts and principles in developing sound, practical solutions to operating policy issues.
  • You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and are adept at positively influencing and adapting your approach with another party to achieve optimal resolution of challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish collaborative working relationships and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Concise written and verbal communication.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter who takes great pride in delivering high-quality timely and tangible results.
