Description:
The Security Officer role involves providing a safe and secure environment for all staff, children, youth and visitors. Primary responsibilities include responding to emergent situations, conducting regular patrols and security checks on campus, and investigating irregularities. The job may also incorporate other responsibilities specific to the needs of a particular program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrol interior and exterior areas of the campus.
- Respond to and report any irregular or concerning activities or persons on campus.
- Screen visitors and employees as they enter the property during the hours of 8:00p.m. and 4:00a.m. and notify programs as required.
- Conduct security checks of all doors, windows, gas lines, Agency vehicles and other areas as assigned.
- Provide back-up to programs and assist with emergent situations involving children and youth as required.
- Write detailed reports including daily activity reports.
- Transport children and youth to and from the hospital if required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree or Diploma in a related field and/or experience working in security is an asset.
- Alberta Basic Security Guard Training and Security and Services license.
- Experience in Therapeutic Campus-Based Care treatment or congregate care setting preferred.
- Ability to effectively respond to emergencies and make immediate decisions while maintaining professionalism and composure.
- Demonstrated interest, commitment, consistency, and a high level of personal maturity and responsibility.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
- A Police Information Check, which includes a vulnerable sector search, is required (or is in process of being completed) prior to employment.
- A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and ability to drive Agency vehicles (min. 2 years driving experience with a class 5/GDL class 5 license).
- Completion of ASIST, First Aid, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Certified with CYCAA would be considered an asset.
