Security Officer

This position is considered a position of trust and requires a criminal record check.

Reporting to the Residence Manager, the Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of student residents, staff, College staff at the Kivalliq Campus Student Residence and or, main campus when requested. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the security of the College buildings.

The position ensures all students and College staff that work and live in the Kivalliq Campus Student Residence and the Married Residence Units are safe and secure by ensuring all fire regulations and other College Student Residence rules and regulations are adhered to. There are 50-68 students and guests staying at the Kivalliq Hall Single (September – June) and 12 plus students and their family members staying at the Family Residence Units in Rankin Inlet.

The ideal candidate will have achieved a Grade 10 education and have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in security or a related field. A class 5 driver’s license is required due to the required ability to transport student residents and staff in the residence van. A successful candidate without a class 5 driver’s license must obtain one within six (6) months after hire. The ability to diffuse and deal with difficult, stressful, and possibly violent situations is a requirement. Applicants must also be willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts.

Certification in First Aid/CPR as well as the ability to communicate with students in Inuktut would be considered assets.
