The Canadian Lobster Research Network (CLRN) undertakes co-constructed and collaborative research on productivity, stock structure, and connectivity in the American lobster. (Homarus americanus). It is a permanent, multi-stakeholder (Industry, First Nations, Government, Academia, ENGOs) and multi-disciplinary (Natural and Social Sciences) research platform to support sustainable and profitable exploitation of Canadian lobster fisheries in the face of rapid climate and ecosystem changes. The CLRN is seeking a highly skilled Science Director to oversee lobster science research activities coordinated by the CLRN. The Science Director will be responsible for developing and implementing research strategies, managing assorted studies and teams of researchers, and ensuring that studies align with the lobster industry's science priorities.
Responsibilities • Develop and implement research strategies. • Write research proposals and actively seek funding opportunities to support projects. • Oversee the design and execution of research projects. • Manage teams of researchers and support staff. • Analyze, interpret, and report on research data. • Communicate research findings. • Stay up to date on industry trends and advancements in research methodology. Requirements • Ph.D. or Master's degree in a relevant scientific field such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, natural sciences, statistics, etc. • Ten+ years of experience in research or a related field, with a proven track record of success in managing research projects and teams. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a solid ability to use survey research tools to analyze complex data and identify meaningful insights. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Strong leadership and management skills, with a demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team members. • Must be highly organized and meticulous, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and able to implement research strategies successfully. • Ability to speak and write both in English and French is preferred. • Experience working with the fishing industry in Canada will be beneficial.
