FortisAlberta is looking for a SCADA Engineer to be responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the Distribution SCADA System, Distribution Automation System (DA) and the Outage Management System (OMS) ICCP connection that will be utilized within the FortisAlberta Control Centre. The SCADA Engineer will administer and maintain the SCADA Database, develop, and maintain various SCADA Displays, and develop and maintain database and display templates for specific Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) such as electronic reclosers and automated switches.

Additionally, the SCADA Engineer will work with the Protection & Control team when introducing new IEDs and Remote Terminal Unit (RTUs) to develop the SCADA and DA requirements and support technical training programs on the SCADA and DA systems for Internal Stakeholders, such as Engineers, Engineering Technologists, System Operators. This role will also have responsibility for developing and maintaining documentation for the operation of the SCADA and DA systems and performing SCADA checks during the commissioning stage of IEDs field installations.

The SCADA Engineering will need to integrate with other 3rd party SCADA systems via Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP) for the purposes of data sharing, administer and maintain the OMS ICCP connection with the SCADA system and assist in troubleshooting SCADA and DA communication systems. Special projects and other duties, as assigned.

What will you bring to the Role?

• Demonstrated abilities in graphical software, database management, and programming or script writing.
• Proficient in DNP 3.0 application and programming and in IED and RTU configuration and programming.
• Knowledge of IEC 60870 and 61850.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings.
• Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated abilities in technical writing.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve issues by analyzing and evaluating possible solutions.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills in order to manage multiple and diverse projects concurrently.
• Highly motivated with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications.
• Knowledge of Distribution Power Systems and Protective Relaying.

Qualifications we are looking for:

• Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical/Computer/Communications) plus a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Must be registered as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training with APEGA.
• Previous experience in SCADA/OMS Engineering at a Professional Engineer level would be an asset.
