Description:
The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transporting to post-collection facilities.
*This is a part time position, 2 days per week*
Key Responsibilities:
- Truck Operation & Waste Collection: Safely operate a residential or recycling collection truck, ensuring the efficient loading of solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the vehicle.
- Route Management: Follow designated collection routes, ensuring all materials are collected according to the schedule and company standards.
- Vehicle Maintenance & Inspections: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety checks on the truck and equipment, documenting inspections, and reporting any mechanical issues to the supervisor.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and legal requirements, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to traffic and waste management regulations.
- Customer Interaction: Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while interacting with customers and the general public during route stops.
- Physical Labor: Regularly lift, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds, ensuring proper lifting techniques are used.
- Team Collaboration: If applicable, supervise assigned helpers on the route, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
- Hazardous Waste Identification: Identify prohibited materials (such as flammable items) and handle waste removal as per company guidelines.
- Documentation & Reporting: Complete daily truck reports, route sheets, and any additional documentation as required by management.
- Cleanliness & Maintenance: Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and out, ensuring a tidy work environment.
Requirements:
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED is preferred. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, with at least one year of commercial driving experience or completion of a CDL training program.
- Driving Skills: Demonstrated ability to safely operate large vehicles, maneuver trucks into tight spaces, and safely back up for long distances.
- Physical & Mental Ability: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds regularly. Must be able to work in various weather conditions and handle a physically active job.
- Safety Focused: Strong understanding of safety standards and the ability to identify and report hazards promptly.
- Customer Service: Ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external customers to ensure a positive service experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
- Knowledge of western PEI.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and read maps or route sheets.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with team members and customers.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and work environments, ensuring efficiency and quality of service.
