Description:

Yukon University Research Services Office seeks an individual to join our growing office as a Grant Facilitator and Research Engagement Coordinator. This position plays a key role in cultivating a culture that celebrates research and scholarly activity across YukonU’s campuses. Your innovative ideas and energy will create new opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage in research and scholarly activity and will support the development of accessible and efficient processes to enhance YukonU’s research administration.

Your role will have two primary areas of responsibility. As a Grant Facilitator, you will provide pre- and post-award support to students, faculty, and staff, who will have varying levels of experience in the research process. This may include coaching in the generation of research ideas, approaches to partnership and reconciliation in research, and the development of funding proposals; support in grant administration; supporting knowledge mobilization; and planning project close-out or new areas of investigation. As a Research Engagement Coordinator, you will work across the university to grow research culture. This will include planning and hosting research-related events such as training sessions, workshops, and research symposia to celebrate YukonU’s research activities, both internally to YukonU and with the public. It will also include supporting YukonU’s commitment to Indigenization though supporting knowledge creation and research activities that are borne from both Indigenous and Western knowledges.

 

Knowledge and Skills
Essential Qualifications (assessed in screening process)
Education and Training

Relevant university education, preferably at the graduate level; a combination of relevant post secondary experience and work-related experience could be considered;
Demonstrated abilities:

Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure;
A solid working knowledge of the Canadian research ecosystem with considerable experience in science communication and knowledge mobilization;
Considerable experience developing multi-year budgets, in-kind valuations, and leveraging of funding;
Knowledge, skills, and abilities (factors assessed through interview process):

Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact productively and professionally with a wide range of internal and external partners;
Demonstrated ability collaborating with diverse groups on shared projects, with strategic planning, and in setting and achieving goals;
Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials;
Able to work non-standard schedule at times to deal with deadlines/travel;
Demonstrated service orientation with a strong attention to detail;

Strong numeracy skills;
Considerable experience in a computerized work environment and proficiency in web-based applications, e-mail, and the use of spreadsheet, word processing and visual presentation software including application submission and management portals;
Demonstrated experience planning, designing and executing events
Understand communications strategies, marketing, media relations and coordination of public events well enough to plan program activities in a way that supports appropriate marketing efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supports the implementation of the strategic direction of the Research Services Office.

Responsible for the design, implementation and delivery of activities that support the development of research culture at YukonU. This will include, but is not limited to:
Conduct consultations to identify research engagement initiatives, educational opportunities, potential partnerships and existing knowledge gaps in the research enterprise
Design and deliver a training plan for faculty, staff and students to support the research enterprise
Develop, deliver, and facilitate workshops and educational sessions based on the training plan
Build relationships with faculty and staff engaged in research-related activities and identify new opportunities to provide or refine the Research Services Office activities (the department).
Responsible for student centric research promotion activities.
Support students interested in participating in research
Supports the grant application process by collaborating with research and scholarly activity practitioners with pre and post award requirements. This includes but is not limited to:
Engaging with faculty to develop research ideas
Support the grant application process by collaborating with applicants to identify funding opportunities that align with their research interests and goals.
Collaborating with internal staff from other departments to support faculty with compliance related to internal policies and procedures.
Assist faculty in budget development, compliance and administrative requirements for grant applications
Review proposals and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures as well as funder and grant requirements.
Responsible for the project management of multiple research initiatives including tracking deadlines, submission requirements and other compliance related responsibilities.
Communicating activities and opportunities of the department to YukonU and the public.
Maintain an understanding of available funding streams relevant to the researchers at YukonU, including eligibility and funding requirements, and advise YukonU students, faculty, and staff of funding opportunities.
Build and maintain an index of grant programs, successful grant applications and other relevant funding information to maintain institutional knowledge about grants.
Identify and support the implementation of opportunities to enhance the Indigenization of departmental activities and processes.
Implement approaches to formalize partnerships in support of departmental activities and maintain records of departmental partnerships and collaborations.
Identify and recommend actions to the supervisor that address process and policy barriers that deter growth and opportunity associated with the mandate of the department and implement those actions where appropriate.
Provide recommendations to the supervisor on opportunities related to department administration, growth, and development, and strategic YukonU priorities.
Serve on YukonU committees and groups to provide advice and expertise for research related activities.
Research and recommend enhanced departmental management, communications strategies, and processes in support of departmental activities.
Support the implementation of departmental initiatives identified in internal YukonU planning documents (e.g., Strategic Plan, Academic Plan, Research and Scholarly Activity Plan) and report on progress to the supervisor on these initiatives.
Maintain service level standards to monitor the delivery of departmental services.
Collaborate with other YukonU departments and units to provide opportunities to support the delivery of the department’s mandate.
