Registered Child Psychologist

 

Description:

The ideal candidate would have training and experience with both counselling and formal psychoeducational assessments, though both modalities not required. A high degree of competence and experience is required within one domain.

 

1. For counselling psychologists, provide direct counselling services with children and young adults, as well as parent support for a variety of developmental concerns such as:

 

  • ADHD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Intellectual Developmental Disorders
  • Communication Disorders
  • Anxiety/OCD/Perfectionism/Phobias
  • Behavioral Challenges
  • Giftedness
  • Emotional RegulationDepression
  • Social Perspective Taking and Social Skills
  • Executive Functioning challenges
  • Peer Support

 

2. For counselling psychologists, multi-modal counselling training and experience preferred.

 

3. If offering psychoeducational assessment services, the right candidate will have:

 

  • formal training in childhood assessment through a school psychology program, such as the School and Applied Child Psychology program from the University of Calgary or clinical psychology training program.
  • a deep knowledge base of childhood disorders.
  • the ability to think critically and identify how these disorders present and differentiate in practice.
  • demonstrate a well-developed communication style, both verbally and written, that results in assessment reports that stand above the rest.
  • consultation experience with schools (e.g., school observations, IPP meetings/planning), pediatricians, psychiatrists, and other professionals as part of, and following the assessment process.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Registered Psychologist
  • Active permit to practice with the College of Alberta Psychologists without restriction
  • Competency in counselling OR assessment of childhood disorders and in working with children, young adults, and their families.
  • Three to five years experience working with children and or adolescents preferred
  • Have professional liability insurance
  • Able to provide an updated clear criminal background search with vulnerable sector check.
  • Familiarity with Q-Interactive/Q-Global is an asset but not required.
