The Skeena West Section team is a passionate and professional group based in the beautiful North Coast Skeena Region, with offices in Terrace and Prince Rupert. You'll work alongside a mix of experienced team members and recent additions, collaborating closely with Area Supervisors, Senior Park Rangers, and contracted operators, including private businesses and Indigenous organizations. Your role as a Recreation Services Officer will be pivotal in ensuring that BC Parks deliver high-quality, accessible camping and day-use experiences, helping to uphold the natural beauty and recreational heritage of British Columbia.

The Role
As a Recreation Services Officer, you'll oversee contracted park operators to ensure smooth and high-quality campground operations across front country areas. Your work directly impacts the public, ensuring that everyone can enjoy consistent and well-maintained recreational experiences throughout BC. This is an exciting role for those passionate about maintaining high standards, fostering creative solutions, and working closely with diverse partners, including Indigenous organizations. You'll also be inspired by the breathtaking landscapes and you’ll have the unique opportunity to help share the cultural and historical significance of Nisga’a Lisims Memorial Lava Bed Park.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Resource Management or Natural Resource Management or related degree (e.g., geography, environmental studies) and three years of directly related experience, of which a minimum two years’ park/recreation management experience and one year of natural resource management; OR,
  • Degree in Business with focus on project and/or contract management in the Natural Resource Sector (e.g. business administration, public administration) ; OR,
  • Two year technical diploma in natural resource management or Parks Management, or related diploma and five years of directly related experience, of which a minimum two years’ park/recreation management and one year of natural resource management.
  • Experience and/ or training in contract management, including negotiating terms and conditions, procurement for services or assets, contract inspection and monitoring, direct financial negotiations, contract agreement writing, dispute resolution.
  • Park management experience includes development and maintenance of recreation facilities, operation of facilities, management of public and private sector recreation services, and employee and public safety and security).
  • Natural Resource management experience includes wildlife or vegetation management programs, resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment, resource use regulations, resource protection, non-conforming use management, First Nations agreements.

Willingness Statements:

  • Must maintain Park Ranger designation under the Park Act and comply with BC Parks’ uniform policy.
  • Must possess and maintain a Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to travel, sometimes extensively both within and outside the region and in remote areas for multiple days, by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, in camp conditions and in all weather.
