Description:
Undertaking of rail systems design (signaling, communication system, traction power, overhead catenary etc.), operations and maintenance planning, interface design, requirements writing and support requirements engineering activities
Supporting Requirements Engineering activities (creation, definition, decomposition etc.) using DOORS NG (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System New Generation) or similar
Reference applicable standards applicable such as ISO/IEC 15288 and INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering) guideline, AREMA (American Railway Engineer and Maintenance of way Association) Manual of Railway Engineering, Agency Design Standards, NFPA-130, National Electric Code, and related specifications for design of the above elements
Assisting senior staff on a variety of projects such as new transit rail project and subway works across Canada
Supporting efforts for site work on transit rail projects
Coordinating with multiple disciplines, including rail systems disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to help complete assigned tasks
Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings
Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences
Conducts research and data gathering as required for Technical Advisory work
Serve as key personnel in the requirement management and requirements database work and maintenance
Participating in multiple projects throughout their lifecycles, from market engagement, solution preparation, project execution and delivery, to project closeout
Understanding trends and best practices in the permanent way and rail engineering market
Participating in local Professional Associations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Electronic, Information systems or similar)
Minimum of 3.0 GPA or higher
Bilingual in French & English
Demonstrated interest in Rail & Transit Infrastructure
Sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals related to transportation
Familiarity with drafting software
The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future.
Preferred
Master’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Electronic, Information systems or similar)
EIT/ FE Certification
Coursework in transportation design
Knowledge of applicable codes such as AREMA, Agency Design Standards, NEC/NFPA, and related specifications and standards for design of the above elements
Understanding of requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or Perforce Helix
Comprehension of the Systems Engineering “V” Life Cycle Process
Fluency in 3D CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD software to lay out right-of-way, rail alignments, drainage systems, roadway design, sidewalks and pedestrian accommodation, utility systems, and grading designs
Familiarity with civil engineering design and analysis tools for rail, roads, and/or water systems
Proficiency in data processing and analysis using tools such as Excel, VBA, Python, or other applicable tools
Evidence of past internship in the transportation sector
