Responsibilities:

Ensures raw materials, finished products and any other samples are tested with detail, accuracy and completed in a timely manner, while maintaining good laboratory practices.

Major Responsibilities:
 

  • Reports directly to the Food Safety Managerof Griffith Foods Canada and communicates all relevant matters pertaining to Quality Systems.
  • Acquires and maintains the technical skills and knowledge, through reading and training, to have good understanding of microbiological testing and results.
  • Prepares samples for testing: obtaining samples, assigning each a number, and weighing out each sample.
  • Maintains records of all samples to be tested and enters data into database.
  • Prepares all materials needed to complete microbiological tests: microbiological media, buffers, reagents, sterilization of necessary tools and equipment.
  • Performs all necessary tests for each sample with detail, accuracy, and aseptic technique.
  • Maintains an up-to-date list of all products being tested and the tests performed.
  • Performs environmental sampling and testing of different areas within plant; weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Maintains records of all environmental inspections, and compiles and issues reports upon completion of tests.
  • Provides any information or results to other departments, as required.
  • Issues certificates of analysis to customers, when required.
  • Reads plates, records results, and streaks plates. Approves raw materials and finished products, investigates any products that may be out of specifications, makes recommendations and re-samples.
  • Performs verification of Certificate of Analysis (COA) for approved products to ensure that raw materials are within specification.
  • Maintains good laboratory practices – washing dishes, keeping lab clean, autoclaving necessary materials before disposal. Keeps all manuals and records up to date.
  • Sends out sample for outside testing as required by the customer
  • Participate and conduct laboratory proficiency testing program (as Sample Check Program by AOAC).
  • Performs the following duties on a regular basis / or as required:
  • Prepares and standardizes laboratory reagents.
  • Operates specialized equipment and instruments and calibrates, as required.
  • Orders supplies, when required.
  • Participates in special projects, other duties or tasks that may be assigned as required.
  • Ensures the health, safety, cleanliness, and security of the work environment.
  • Ensures compliance with all product safety, legality and quality requirements.
  • Understands and complies with all company policies and procedures.
     

Requirements:
 

  • University Degree – 4 Year Program required.
  • Experience: More than 1 year, but less than 2 years.
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Excellent communications and inter – personal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
