Duties and Responsibilities

1. Department Coordination: Responsible for the planning, administration, staffing and scheduling of the Department

· Undertakes the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation of Department staff team; and ensures training records and timesheets are completed and submitted;

· Supervising Department staff and volunteers and ensuring they work in compliance with all policies, regulations and procedures;

· Completes employment grant applications and reporting for summer youth employment grants in collaboration with other departments;

· Coordinates staff and volunteer scheduling for Heritage Village operations and special events;

· Follows annual operating and strategic plans, completes initiatives and complied relevant reports for areas of responsibility;

· Purchases, maintains and stores supplies for Department needs;

· Effectively manages Department budget lines for areas of responsibility;

· Sets up and maintains public event calendars.

2. Public Programming: Coordinates delivery of on-site public programming including interpretation and events

· Implement interpretation and Public Programing as guided by the Fanshawe Pioneer Village Interpretation Master Plan and Strategic Plan initiatives;

· Coordinate engaging activities and demonstrations to share local histories with the public;

· Oversee the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of special events for the public;

· Identify methods of continuous improvement for events and on-site programming;

· Schedule, prepare agendas, and take notes for special event coordination meetings with partners;

· Seek out unique programming partnerships and liaise with community groups and partner organizations.

3. Site Operation: Oversees the operation of the Heritage Village

· Oversees the opening and closing of the Heritage Village during the operating season;

· Updates Visitor Map Guide information sections with programming/event details and maintains supply of pre-printed Map Guides;

· Promotes effective communication and cooperation within the Department, across Departments and with volunteers and partner groups;

· Cross-trained on Visitor Admissions Tollgate and General Store Gift Shop operations;

· Develops and assigns interpreter task plans and seasonal projects;

· Manages reproduction costume collection, including sign-out and return, and annual laundering, repair, and inventory.

4. Communications & Promotion: Responsible for tasks related to the promotion of public programs and events

· Coordinates on-site promotional efforts (parking lot bulletin board and on-site posters);

· Completes website updates for event and programming sections of the FPV website;

· Assists with overall website maintenance as needed;

· Provides content for promotions, e-blasts and newsletter related to programming and events;

· Creates social media posts and advertisements for Public Programming activities and special events;

· Collaborates with other staff to contribute/monitor FPV social media platforms;

· Posts service disruptions as required.

5. Cross-Departmental Responsibilities

· Serves on the FPV Health & Safety Committee and provides administrative support;

· Assists with coordination of Volunteer Recognition events;

· Supports other departments as needed, assisting occasionally with education programming, outreach, visitor services, winter shutdown or rental events;

· Participates on the Black Histories Advisory, and Community Engagement Committees and drafts minutes;

· Assists with set-up and administration of online ticketing systems for annual pre-paid special events;

· Coordinate job postings for own department and for other department coordinators as required.

6. General Responsibilities

· Supports the strategic direction of the organization;

· Operates the Heritage Village according to superior customer service standards;

· Ensures the safety of volunteers, visitors and staff and protection of the site's resources;

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Academic degree in history, museum studies or relevant discipline; or comparable experience in a museum or living-history environment;

· Minimum 2 years of experience in the area of museum public programming, education, interpretation, heritage site supervision or special event coordination;

· Previous supervisory experience and strong leadership skills;

· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other staff/colleagues at all levels;

· Detail-oriented with superior planning and organizational skills;

· Flexible to change, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;

· Experience dealing with the general public in a courteous and effective manner, problem solving abilities and a commitment to exceptional customer service;

· Experience working with volunteers an asset;

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

· Computer and social media literacy;

· Valid First-Aid and CPR certificate

· A Vulnerable Sector police check is required for this position;

· Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required - no public transportation is available to workplace.
