Public Interpretation Program Coordinator

  • Recruit, train, schedule, support, and evaluate all volunteers and staff for public interpretation historical programs for: 1846 Fort and Cree Encampment, 1885 Street, 1905 Street and 1920’s street.
  • Responsible for managing, procuring and maintaining all program supplies within budget
  • Support supervision of the Costumed Interpreter Volunteer program
  • Responsible for tracking expenses and revenues within a pre-determined budget
  • Develop new public programs and/or theme weekends/events for the public season.
  • Liaise with communications personnel for promotional needs
  • Liaise with rentals for rental program or special event needs
  • Assist with the collection and compilation of program data for performance measures
  • Represent the public interpretation program or Program and Events units on various committees as assigned
  • Fulfill supervisor roles and responsibilities in the city-wide safety program
  • Respond to day-to-day needs of customer concerns and requests for information
  • Work with Indigenous Narratives onsite to provide authentic, collaborative and experiential programming
  • Supervise and support Multicultural Narrative Interpreters and provide guidance for the Program a for Fort Edmonton Park
  • Additional duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation, Leisure, Physical Education or related program (i.e.: Canadian Studies, Public History, Museum Studies, Education) with training in Program Development
  • One year experience in related program delivery including supervision of staff
  • Direct experience in developing and conducting historical interpretation, recreational, cultural and related educational programs
  • Highly developed and demonstrable verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to research and develop interpretive plans and programs
  • Knowledge of Western Canadian History
  • Experience working in a living history or museum environment is an asset
  • Experience working with volunteers is an asset
  • Proficiency with computers especially with the use of Google office and Volunteer Impact.
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable using various social media such as Twitter and Facebook
  • Possession of current Standard First Aid and CPR certifications prior to commencement of employment
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License (or Operators Licensing equivalent recognized by the Operators Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta.Reg.320/2002) and eligibility to obtain a City drivers permit
  • Applicants will be required to arrange with own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business use auto insurance
  • An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position. The new hire will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Service. Please note, this may take up to 3 weeks to process
