Description:
Metro Vancouver’s Regional Planning & Housing Services Department is hiring a Property Maintenance Assistant to support the North West Area team in ensuring rental properties, including apartments and townhouses, are well-maintained. This role requires strong organizational and technical skills to perform repairs, manage contractors, and implement preventative maintenance strategies.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with building technologies, be a self-starter, and work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct unit and property inspections and complete required reports.
- Perform equipment inspections and servicing, documenting findings in prescribed reporting formats.
- Inspect and supervise the work of external trades or contractors.
- Perform direct maintenance repairs, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance tasks.
- Maintain personal tool inventory as required.
- Assist caretaking staff with minor maintenance work.
- Execute other assigned maintenance-related duties.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Grade 12 education with relevant courses or certifications in maintenance/property operations.
- Formal training in building technology or maintenance, such as a journeyman certificate or diploma in building technology from a community college.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in property or maintenance work.
- Ability to assess and approve the quality of work performed by independent contractors.
- Strong physical ability and technical knowledge to conduct a range of property repairs.
- Effective communication skills to interact with clients, staff, and external trades.
- Comprehensive knowledge of residential construction techniques, maintenance methods, and renovation practices.
- Familiarity with building codes, municipal safety regulations, and fire protection requirements.
- Must be bondable and possess a valid BC driver’s license.
- Must own small hand tools necessary for general building maintenance.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check.
