Project Coordinator

 

Description:

JBH Redevelopment department is seeking a Project Coordinator with skills and knowledge required to participate in the successful delivery of capital redevelopment and construction projects for the organization. Working under the direction of the Redevelopment Leadership Team and collaboratively with key stakeholders, consultants and other partners as required, this position will be responsible for the coordination of renovation planning, new construction and redevelopment of the facilities including detailed architectural design work relating to hospital initiatives and space planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Participation in large and small scale project planning.
  • Assisting with project implementation and development of appropriate strategies/controls to ensure the projects proceed on time and on budget.
  • Participation in the review, analysis and evaluation of drawings, specifications, and tenders and preparation of recommendations to ensure awarding of contracts to qualified, cost effective, and knowledgeable contractors/vendors.
  • Participation in research of best practices in a variety of areas associated with projects to ensure consideration is given to the current organizational best practices and external innovative and cost effective approaches to design and equipment and furnishings.
  • Working regularly with stakeholders through consultation; ensuring user perspective is understood and represented in all aspects of project design/development and implementation.
  • Liaising with users, consultants, contractors and trades working on a variety of projects assisting with coordination of activities and representing the Hospital’s perspective to ensure project objectives and outcomes meet the stated requirements.
  • Assisting in the identification of locations and planning for site visits to enhance JBH staff and physician knowledge of innovative facility design and best practice models.
  • Assisting the Project Manager with the development of schedules for various projects and monitors project processes, ensuring adherence to the schedule.
  • Participates in preparation of MOHLTC Capital Planning process, and internal reporting to develop, monitor and track multiple capital projects.
  • Assisting in reviewing and managing contractor claims and change orders, identifying opportunities and potential pitfalls.
  • Facilitating staging and relocations resulting from renovations, ensuring minimal interruption of day-to-day operations, and for patients, families, staff and physicians.
  • Participation and coordination of site review, validation and update of space plans as required for Space Planning Requests.
  • Assisting with general organization of furniture, fixtures and equipment including inventory, moves, storage and disposal
  • Active participant on selected Redevelopment and other relevant Committees.
  • Undertaking a variety of other activities as required to assist the Redevelopment Office to meet workload demands.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, Diploma in Architectural Technology, Construction Science, Engineering Technology, Interior Design or equivalent is required.
  • Project Management Certificate is an asset.
  • Strong and proficient computer skills (i.e. MS Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Project), Visio, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Project Management software, etc. are an asset.
  • Must have exposure to hospital construction experience, ranging from small to large complex projects.
  • Demonstrated strength in research of best practices for a wide variety of areas related to complex projects.
  • Demonstrated strength in analysis and synthesis of complex contracts and other project related documents.
  • Ability to assist with management of small ($5K) to larger ($1million +) projects on time and on budget and understand and undertake a wide variety of projects with a broad range of focus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to establish positive working relationships with internal/external partners.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are key to support your work in a fast paced health care, multi-union environment.
  • Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality, availability and performance required.
