Description:

The Thrombosis Program at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is seeking a Software Developer for the development of an app to support thrombosis research and analysis. The applicant will work under The Wilfred and Joyce Posluns Centre for Image-Guided Innovation and Therapeutic Intervention (PCIGITI) alongside other developers and innovators to provide the scientific community with expertise in data-based science, high-performance computing, and machine learning. The developer will also work with the Thrombosis Program, a multidisciplinary research team that provides data-supported analysis of thrombosis research within the SickKids Research Institute and many other collaborators across Canada and beyond.

 

What you will do:

  • Build and maintain full-stack web applications, data analysis pipelines, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with other developers on your team, bioinformaticians, and scientists
  • Interview users and clients to propose and design project specifications
  • Design and test new features and review code written by your peers
  • Own and operate the software and systems you build with current best practices
  • Facilitate an application’s transition from research project to production

 


Essential requirements:

  • B.Sc. degree in computer science, software engineering or related field; or at least 2 years of recent and equivalent experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in web application development and deployment
  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, and React
  • Experience with Linux environments
  • Experience with Git
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

 


Additional qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience with Docker
  • Experience programming in Typescript
  • Experience with SQL databases (e.g. designing schemas, optimizing queries, migrating)
  • Experience with cloud environments
  • Experience with high-performance computing and job schedulers
  • Knowledge of web application security
  • DevOps experience (e.g. GitHub Actions)
  • Experience with bioinformatics or health data
