Reporting to the Director, Educator Development, the Manager, Program Implementation and Training plays a key role in ensuring that educators are best equipped to deliver the Education Program established by the Minister of Education. It is through the Manager, Program Implementation and Training that the Department demonstrates accountability to the Public for the quality of education offered to students in Nunavut Schools. As such, the Minister of Education relies on the incumbent to: (a) ensure educators continue to develop their teaching skills to meet current education standards, and (b) that student support staff receive the training they need to properly meet the specialized needs of the students. In successfully carrying out this position’s responsibilities, the Manager, Program Implementation and Training must effectively function as the Department’s principal contact on matters relating to professional development and training needs and providing advice and guidance as needed. This responsibility involves managing a budget of $1.6 million and supervising seven (7) staff: Program Implementation and Training Coordinators (x5), and Student Support Program Training Coordinators (x2). As it relates to these direct reports, the incumbent performs supervisory duties including directly assigning work, assessing employee performance and dealing with performance issues which may arise. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Education (a Master’s Degree is considered an asset) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Adult Education plus 5 years’ experience in education; 3 years of experience with educator training and skills development programs; and 1 year experience in program and project development and implementation at the school/regional/territorial level. In addition to this, the ideal candidate should have experience with a wide variety of teaching approaches and methodologies particularly those appropriate to bilingual context and have knowledge of adult learning and development. A strong working knowledge of the Department’s philosophy, educational principals, beliefs and pedagogy is required, as well as knowledge of the Nunavut school system / structure and knowledge of bilingual/bicultural education, models of instruction, and community /culture-based education. The incumbent must also have experience facilitating with proven experience designing training and knowledge transfer workshops as well as being a skilled project manager capable of managing a program or project budget and balancing multiple competing priorities. Ability to work with tools (e.g. computers), IT systems (i.e. record tracking systems, communication tools/software applications) and software (e.g. MS Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Website, Social Media etc.) are required as part of this job.
