The Department of Paediatrics encourages and develops innovative research in a collaborative setting focusing on child health. Our undergraduate and postgraduate education programs enrich the student experience to provide the knowledge and skills needed to ensure exemplary care across multidisciplinary paediatric sub-specialties. Exceptional specialized clinical care is provided to children in South Western Ontario from faculty committed to child health.

Responsibilities

The Program Assistant will act as the first point of contact for the department for postgraduate subspecialty and fellowship program matters. The role will provide administrative support for the Program Directors in the Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM), the Paediatric Critical Care (PCCM), and General Paediatrics programs, as well as program leads of paediatric divisions, which run clinical fellowship programs. The role will administer core postgraduate academic activities in postgraduate subspecialty and fellowship training programs, ensuring adherence to program standards. The role will also support the Competency-Based Medical Education in Paediatric residency training program, and coordinate logistics for detailed schedules, teaching sessions, exams and events for trainees and fellows

Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience providing administrative support and customer service; preferably in an academic environment

  • Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments

  • Intermediate proficiency required in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) in order to prepare emails, announcements, and to input data into spreadsheets and databases
  • Familiarity with software applications used by Western preferred – e.g. OWL, Cascade, PeopleSoft Financials, Elentra, one45, Qualtrics
  • Familiarity with IS (Intelligent System) software application used by LHSC for maintaining call schedules preferred
