The Professional Practice Leader is responsible for the delivery of educational programs, processes, and services. They will provide expertise in the facilitation of clinical skills development and advance professional practice within the First Nations Health Authority Nursing Programs.
As a health and wellness organization, the First Nations Health Authority has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021. Responsibilities
- Understands and respects First Nations cultural principles and protocols and is able to apply this understanding in work situations.
- Determines requirements and plans, directs, and evaluates the efficacy of nurse education programming, including in-service, professional development, and provincial standards training and graduate studies programs (e.g. Nurse Practitioner Master's program).
- Directs an ongoing program of provincial standards review and evaluates and develops or revises existing standards to ensure they reflect current best practices.
- Carries out or directs quality management initiatives such as introduction of evidence based tools and processes for the assessment of nursing clinical competencies and professional practice skills.
- Provides leadership, human resource and financial management of the Education Team nursing practice consultants who provide advisory/clinical practice services (i.e. orientation, training, in service, preceptor, clinical support and clinical competency assessment), to community health nurses working in First Nations communities.
- Provides the nursing consultant and other senior nursing staff with expert advice, analysis and recommendations concerning clinical and professional practice issues and leads formal investigations into clinical and professional practice incidents that occur within the region.
- Represents nursing program interests (clinical and professional practice), on provincial and professional advisory groups, associations, and committees and with First Nations partners and communities.
- Participates in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of new staff.
- Manages staff performance and conducts education team members. Supervises day to day work, directly assigns work, resolves workplace disputes, assess the performance of staff, imposes discipline, and terminates employment.
