Production Underwriter

 

Description:

The Production Underwriter, Commercial Insurance is responsible for driving sales, establishing relationships, and securing profitable business within the region. This role focuses on commercial insurance products, particularly with a construction focus. The Underwriter will leverage specialized knowledge to build relationships with brokers, recommend action plans, and contribute to client growth. A strong sales-driven mindset, strategic thinking, and hustle are key components for success in this position. This role reports to the Regional Underwriting Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Sales: Strategic Business Development and Product Innovation

    • Identify new growth opportunities with key brokers and ensure alignment with the organization’s appetite.

    • Build broker clientele by networking and generating lists of prospective focus brokers.

    • Conduct marketing visits to strengthen broker relationships and promote Burns & Wilcox (B&W) offerings.

    • Maintain relationships with existing brokers to solicit renewals and generate new business.

    • Develop marketing strategies to remain competitive in the market.

    • Ensure prompt and professional client service for all agents and brokers.

    • Collaborate with the team to drive regional business and identify cross-selling opportunities.

    • Stay informed on market conditions to enhance competitiveness.

  • Underwriting: Analyzing Risk and Placing Business

    • Maintain knowledge of carriers' underwriting guidelines and brokerage market appetites.

    • Collect necessary underwriting information for quoting, binding, and issuing policies.

    • Review coverage requirements, pricing, and conditions for accuracy.

    • Negotiate prices, terms, and conditions with carriers.

    • Submit high-quality submissions to markets and provide guidance to brokers regarding quotes and coverages.

    • Ensure risk inspections are promptly reviewed for quality.

    • Maintain proper documentation to mitigate errors and omissions risks.

    • Stay current with underwriting practices, maintaining required licenses and certifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • CIP or equivalent industry experience preferred.

  • Provincial license or eligibility to obtain one.

  • 5+ years of commercial insurance experience, with strong underwriting expertise.

  • Knowledge of domestic and international commercial markets.
