Within the realm of the AER, the Information Management & Technology Branch is actively scouting for a technical leader for the role of Practice Lead, Data Management under the Standards and Architecture Design unit. As the Practice Lead, you serve as the team's cornerstone, showcasing unparalleled technical leadership in the vast expanse of data management. Your responsibilities will delve deeper than just analyzing data management processes and governance. You will be the beacon in devising state-of-the-art data management and governance solutions.

Your role is pivotal in ensuring the AER has a harmonized methodology, processes and governance – a symphony of best data management practices for the enterprise.

What your day-to-day will look like:

Technical Data Leadership: Act as a primary advisor to our data subject matter experts (SMEs), data architects, business specialists, and business data stewards, actively contributing to the development and execution of the AER enterprise data catalog, data optimization, and data lineage projects, as well as the ongoing evaluation and management of AER's database standards and best practices. In addition to offering strategic guidance, you should also possess practical expertise, capable of demonstrating the most effective methods for implementing data management solutions hands-on. Success in this role requires a strong grasp of the entire data management lifecycle and significant experience in data and database-related tasks.
Tool Development and Backend Processes: As a key member of our team, you will lead the development, research, design, and enhancement of a comprehensive suite of data management and governance tools, including backend processes. This suite encompasses data cataloging, lineage tracking, advanced visualization capabilities, and maintaining the highest standards, including backend database processes. In this technical leadership role within data management, hands-on experience with database SQL, data analysis, and reporting analytics is fundamental to achieving success.
Solution Implementation: Collaborate with data management specialists, analysts and other data SMEs. Ensure solutions are appropriately and properly architected, configured and implemented and realized in alignment with industry best practices, abiding by AER IT standards, leveraging deep knowledge in relational databases, backend processes, security protocols, technical configurations and enterprise architectural considerations.
Process Enhancement: Exhibit mastery in conceptualizing, architecting and refining processes within the data management arena.
Guidance and Oversight: Provide consistent guidance to data architects, project teams and practice leads during the design and implementation of sophisticated architecture and data management strategies.
Documentation Maintenance: Ensure the steady upkeep of data management documentation and configuration documents, keeping them current, thorough and accurate.
Industry Awareness: Stay abreast of the latest industry developments, trends, and best practices, positioning our data strategies at the cutting edge.
Data Change Management: Safeguard the robustness of data change management processes, continually identifying avenues for enhancement and efficiency gains.
Upholding of IT Standards: Embody excellence in your role, championing transparency and adhering to esteemed standards and best practices in data management recognized by the IT community.
Collaboration and Improvement: Engage actively with SMEs across various data domains. Continually identify and act upon opportunities to streamline business and data management processes, endorse best practices, elevate user experiences, reduce cycle durations and amplify overall operational efficacy.

What we’re looking for in you:

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
Over 7 years of meaningful data experience, marked by continuous advancement in skills and increasing responsibilities.
Advanced technical proficiency: Expertise in SQL and Python expertise, Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or PowerBI, and Experience with other pivotal database technologies.
Advanced knowledge of data administration and data management technologies and industry IT best practices in data.
Comprehensive expertise in data analysis, reporting, and analytics.
A certification in data management or an active pursuit towards such a designation.
Enterprise architecture certification would be an asset.
Strong ability to foster robust stakeholder relationships and demystify technical terms for a broad audience.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
A history of exemplary data-focused technical leadership, paired with insightful strategic planning and execution capabilities.
A unique ability to think conceptually and adeptly translate varied conceptual models into actionable outcomes.
