As Operations Superintendent, you will work with your team to execute our mission of safely producing quality, renewable energy, and our vision to be the world’s leading supplier of biomass products. As we look to become carbon negative by 2030 you’ll be able to work at the forefront of making this a reality.

You will be responsible for the overall execution of Safety, Culture, Leadership and Plant Operations and consistently live Drax’s Mission, Vision and Values. You will safely deliver and communicate all targets, budgets, and objectives to the plant team resulting in a team of high performing, committed employees.
 

 

Leadership & Management

  • Champions the Drax Safety Program; providing leadership by encouraging and demonstrating a safe and healthy work environment, aligned with company policies and procedures.
  • Achieves operational efficiency through strong relationships built on effective communication and collaboration with operations, maintenance, support teams (fibre, reliability, technical, process, automation), and Core Services (Finance, HR, IT, Legal, Security, etc).
  • Facilitates and schedules employee development and training initiatives, including maintaining training compliance documentation for equipment operation and safety standards as per SOP/TRA/JRA and other internal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the annual budgeting process and owns the production target KPI.
  • Ensures contractors receive Drax orientation, onboarding, and training, through the lens of safety and our core values.
     

Performance Management & Supervision

  • Implements and manages KPI’s for production teams.
  • Coaches employees, gives feedback, builds relationships, troubleshoots, challenges, and evaluates performance.
  • Organizes work schedules of employees, review vacation requests, and ensure appropriate coverage is provided for assigned work tasks of the operations team.
  • Partners with the site leadership team and HR to ensure that recruitment, training, development, performance standards, are managed at a tangible level to achieve performance goals.
     

Operations

  • Leads by example to champion the Drax Safety Culture by creating, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, following standards and procedures; and complying with legislation and regulations.
  • Oversees and directs the day-to-day operations of the production department in all aspects (safety, people, process).
  • Collaborates with the maintenance team, planning for preventative, short- and long-term projects.
  • Works to minimize costs and maintain financial standards in partnership with site leadership.
  • Works collaboratively with our Fibre Team and oversees and provides direction to Yard Supervisor to ensure raw fibre inventory is adequate to meet plant requirements for volume and cost.
  • Manages the time management (time-entry and approval) for operations team.
  • Drives improvements in safety, productivity, quality, and service standards.
  • Demonstrates accountability and resolves issues, while encouraging a respectful workplace.
     

What are we looking for?

  • 3-5 years of progressive supervisor experience, preferably in Wood Products Manufacturing. A relevant combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Proven safety leader, who is committed to Drax’s Golden Rules of Safety.
  • Strong computer and technology skills with the ability to effectively use the Microsoft Suite of Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience operating work order systems and employee management systems for time entry, reporting and approvals.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Adaptable and supportive team player with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • A track record as an effective, inspiring, supportive, and engaging supervisor.
