Description:
Solenis, a global leader in specialty chemicals, is seeking an Operations Shift Supervisor to oversee on-time production schedules, ensuring safety, quality, and operational efficiency in our London, Ontario facility. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role involves leading production, maintenance, and mix teams, driving continuous improvement, and optimizing processes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Operations Management
- Lead Mix, Production, and Maintenance teams to meet performance targets.
- Drive daily production schedules, ensuring on-time execution.
- Conduct Tier 2 meetings to address safety, quality, and performance concerns.
- Monitor and update key performance indicators (KPIs) and daily performance summaries.
- Oversee preventative maintenance coordination to minimize downtime.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for supply chain issues affecting production.
- Provide vacation coverage for the Operations Manager when required.
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing tools (5 Why analysis, Kaizens, PM, Kan Ban, Poka-Yoke) for operational enhancements.
- Implement systems to capture and analyze process indicators for ongoing efficiency improvements.
- Support troubleshooting and problem resolution related to safety, quality, and production efficiency.
- Enforce adherence to the Solenis Operating System, PMS, and Accountability Matrix.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all safety and quality standards.
- Oversee chemical handling procedures and TDG compliance (Transportation of Dangerous Goods).
- Conduct Short Interval Control Audits at shift start to ensure effective communication and task completion.
- Administer disciplinary action when required.
Leadership & Team Development
- Act as a “Coach for the Coaches” for TPLs (Team Performance Leaders).
- Provide mentorship and leadership to operators, ensuring high engagement and accountability.
- Be available for consultation and support during evening, night, and weekend shifts.
- Support new standards, training, and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Proven leadership experience in an operations or manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive change.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or a Technical field preferred; high school diploma required.
- Prior management experience required.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing or industrial processes preferred.
- SAP proficiency and ability to manage production planning in ERP systems.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (5 Why analysis, Kaizens, PM, Kan Ban, Poka-Yoke).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, SAP).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early starts, long shifts, call-ins, and split shifts.
