Working closely with the Technical Services Manager and CEO to oversee the contract mining and restart activities of our AGS open-pit mining operation. You will have the ability to make a significant contribution to the project team as the Company pursues the disciplined development of the St Lawrence Operation. The incumbent will champion a safety-first culture and be responsible for coordinating and optimizing all aspects of the mining process, and oversight of contract mining operations. This role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
Responsibilities
Team Development and Leadership:
- Recruit, train, and mentor a skilled and motivated operations team.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work culture that encourages professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Foster a safety-focused culture, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and promoting a proactive approach to risk management.
Operational Planning and Communication:
- Develop and implement long-term operational plans to achieve production targets efficiently.
- Coordinate with technical services and the mining contractor to optimize ore extraction and transportation.
- Liaise with other departments, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure effective communication and integration.
- Prepare and present regular reports on production performance, safety metrics, and operational challenges.
Mining Contractor Management:
- Oversee the mining contractor to ensure standards for production, utilization, maintenance, and availability of mining equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Develops and implements Contract Management Plans to ensure all aspects of assigned mining contract(s) are met; establishes key requirements, measures, and protocols to mitigate risks and reports on any concerns to the senior management.
- Manages all commercial activities related to assigned mining contract(s ) to ensure consistency with contract terms and conditions. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure work schedules are appropriately coordinated thereby minimizing service and production interruptions.
Production Monitoring and Cost Management:
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for optimization.
- Work closely with the finance department to manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or production targets.
Continuous Improvement:
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback from operational staff and implementing efficiency-enhancing initiatives.
- Identify and implement new technologies and best practices to improve operational processes.
