As a key player, the incumbent will meticulously plan, coordinate, and execute diverse marketing and promotional activities, offering valuable advice and support to both leadership and staff on marketing, engagement and communication strategies. Leading a team, the incumbent will supervise and guide staff engaged in communications and design work, ensuring exceptional outcomes.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator's responsibilities will encompass creating and implementing corporate marketing plans, curating compelling content for the City of Maple Ridge website and print materials, orchestrating impactful social media campaigns, and coordinating a spectrum of marketing, communications, and engagement initiatives. Building and nurturing relationships with internal and external stakeholders will be a crucial aspect of this role. Utilizing the incumbent's expertise in graphic design software, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator will create and oversee the development of an array of engaging promotional materials. This position provides ample opportunities for autonomous decision-making and exercising judgment while adhering to established policies and procedures. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator’s work will be thoughtfully evaluated by superiors, focusing on effectiveness, quality, and efficiency, thus contributing to our continued success.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Diploma or degree in a discipline related to communications, marketing, community engagement or public relations, including supervisory experience, plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, objectives, methods and techniques of communications work relevant to municipal operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of communications and marketing principles, practices, methods, materials and techniques related to the work performed.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience developing and implementing marketing, communications and public engagement strategies.
  • Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, style and punctuation and arithmetic.
  • Considerable knowledge of digital online engagement and social media practices and related technology.
  • Sound knowledge of the needs and interests of clients, the community and groups within the community and the organization’s programs and activities.
  • Sound knowledge in the use of graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to recommend and implement marketing plans, to assist in planning a variety of marketing and communications.
  • Ability to research, compile and analyze data and to recommend marketing plans and strategies.
  • Ability to develop promotional materials, to work with in-house or contract staff on the design, text and lay-out of same and to coordinate the design, production and dissemination of materials.
  • Ability to develop and create web and social media content.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to prepare news releases, publicity and informational material.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media platforms commonly used in a business/professional setting, along with content management systems, and fundamental HTML/CSS coding.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and adept at reporting on trends and findings.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining web platforms, fostering digital engagement, and managing social media channels.
  • Dedication to anti-racism and inclusive excellence, with a focus on applying an intersectional anti-racist lens to all communications projects.
  • Comprehensive understanding of public engagement principles and utilization of best practices.
