We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our production department at our chocolate factory in Vancouver, BC. The Manufacturing Engineer shall be responsible for overseeing and improving manufacturing processes. The key responsibilities include identifying areas for improvement, maintaining high levels of manufacturing and product quality, designing new products and processes.

This person will also ensure cost efficiency and conformance with regulatory standards. The key responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Focus on improvement on production yields, scrap reduction, downtime reduction etc. • Develop processes to reduce product change over times • Oversee the evaluation and development of new processes, methods, and production controls • Install new equipment and ensure efficient commissioning; train others to operate new machinery • Prepare operations reference materials for new or existing equipment. • Maintain knowledge of new and developing manufacturing technology, equipment, and applications; apply this knowledge to recommend and implement new technology and processes.
 

  • Provide engineering expertise for projects progressing through the manufacturing process for plant layout, process improvement part quality improvement, ergonomic improvement, scrap/reject improvement and cost reduction • Review current manufacturing standards and SOP's, • Develop detailed layouts for equipment, processes and workflow to optimize production efficiency • Ensure manufacturing processes, equipment and products comply with safety standards and legal regulations • Continuous improvement and elimination of waste through ongoing analysis and identification of inefficiencies within the system – Champion a Culture of Lean • Support plant and departments for HACCP, SQF and other audits as required • Conduct line audits, equipment, process capability, and production capacity studies • Identify the root cause of deficiencies and develop required corrective measures • Prepare controls and documents for prototypes, new pilots, molds and tooling • Identify needs, prepare scope and prepare business cases for Capital Projects • Project coordination for maintenance, upgrades and repair when needed The successful candidate should have: • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering • A minimum of 7 years of engineering experience, with five of those in a similar capacity in a food manufacturing or industrial engineering environment • Good working knowledge of food production machinery and associated systems • Familiarity with ISO or similar standards • Experience working in a GMP and SQF certified environment preferred • Passionate about Lean Manufacturing and proficient with tools such as 5S • Strong project management skills • Strong problem solving, root cause analysis, communication and organization skills • Good leadership and team building skills • Proficient with CAM, data analysis programs, AutoCAD • Good people skills and the ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team Purdys Chocolatier recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside of formal education and paid employment.
