Accountabilities:

• Apply, develop and manage Tax Accounting procedures and systems to ensure compliance with Canadian/U.S. GAAP, IFRS requirements:
  • Provide Management with income tax compliance advice
  • Apply, develop, implement and maintain procedures to facilitate the flow of information from the accounting staff and other business units
  • Ensure proper accounting for book to tax adjustments, deferred taxes, etc.
  • Prepare corporate income tax returns, partnership, trust and other information tax returns.
  • Prepare tax reconciliations and notes for quarterly and annual financial statements as well as the annual report.
  • Be the expert in tax accounting under current Canadian/U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
• Manage Internal Control and External audit requirements
  • Ensure compliance of tax processes and facilitate testing by Bill 198 (or equivalent) Internal Control Team.
  • Assist with income tax, taxable benefits, EHT and WISB audits, as needed.
  • Assist in the negotiation of tax assessments.
  • Ensure that notices of objection are filed within the statutory time limits, as applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with other requirements.
• Monitor/review non-resident withholding tax submissions
• Assist in providing advice on issues relating to Employee Taxable Benefits
• Provide Advice and Assistance with respect to Planning, Budgeting and Regulatory Matters
• Assist in identifying opportunities for tax savings and deferral through analysis of tax rules
• Provide Advice, Direction and Assistance as required
  • Assist Senior Manager, Taxation and VP Corporate Tax in review of legal contracts for income tax implications (including non-resident tax and taxable benefits implications).
  • Provide analytical assistance as required by Senior Manager, Taxation and VP Corporate Tax.
• Assist with special projects.
• Maintain/develop internal / external relationships.
