The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized university degree in Recreation, Sport Administration or a related field, plus three (3) years of related work experience. A minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience is required. Excellent comprehension and communications skills (written and verbal) is also required. Experience in a leadership role within a volunteer organization, preferably within the sport, physical activity, recreation sectors is an asset. Experience within a major games program of host society, mission staff or coach is an asset. Experience in project management is an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

As this is a term position for two years, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
