Description:
This role has both daily management, and strategic management responsibilities and activities. The Manager, IT will manage the IT helpdesk, including escalations and relationship management with Western Technology Services and / or other external partners. They are responsible for the computing environment across the Huron campus. This includes lifecycle management of end user, classroom and campus technology and server environments. There is a requirement to support the audio and visual equipment used in classrooms.
The Manager, IT will assist the Director, IT in developing, implementing, and enforcing sections of the IT strategy, in alignment with Huron's strategic plan. The incumbent will be required to research and identify industry trends and best practices with special attention on how these relate to and can bring benefit to Huron. This role is responsible for Cyber security initiatives and will provide Project Management support for relevant projects.
The Manager, IT will manage the development and sustainment of standardized technology solutions and support systems for Huron. These will include:
- Daily support structures typical to an IT help desk, including classroom support;
- Server and Printer fleet management;
- Software and hardware lifecycle management, such as migrations, updates, sunset versions etc;
- Technology and privacy risk assessments such as risk measures, mitigation strategies, etc;
- User training and best practices for technology and computing environments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field is required. A specialization in IT Service Management and IT Governance is preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience working in a similar role is required, including people leadership and service management experience;
- Information Technology Information Library (ITIL) certification or similar would be considered an asset;
- Specialized or technical training in customer relationship / service, continuous quality improvement, process mapping and improvement is desired;
- Experience supporting both PCs and Mac computing environments;
- Expert with desktop support methodologies including Active Directory Policies, SCCM, PC Deployment;
- Expert with typical office software and infrastructure programs such as, Office 365, VM and physical servers, IIS, PHP, Apache, Linux; typically used in Post Secondary Education sector;
- Experience with audio / visual classroom technology including didactic, experiential learning, and active classrooms;
- In-depth knowledge of technical troubleshooting, researching and reporting on industry best practices, frameworks and models; end-user computing and educational technologies related to academic and administrative business functions and supporting infrastructure; process building, evaluation and continual improvement; current classroom and audio visual technology;
- Understanding of and experience with cyber security, including EDR, mitigation strategies and response plans;
- Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
