Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Management & Professional Trainee - Energy Markets.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will have the opportunity to explore different business streams and learn alongside experienced Energy Market Professionals on a rotational basis, once every 4 months within various Energy Markets Business Units. You will have the opportunity to explore various areas in Energy Markets roles in Market Strategy, Commercial Operations, Model Development & Analytics, Commercial Optimization, Trading & Valuation and Commercial Contracts & Partnerships on these short rotations. Upon completion of this 2-year rotation program you will progress into a role within one of the Energy Market business units on an ongoing basis.

Key Accountabilities
 

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplined team to deliver assignments on time, optimized to create maximum value for the company with quality execution.
  • Developing relationships with various stakeholders to support corporate interests with OPG station / plant groups, IESO, OEB, US ISO’s, and Hydro One as needed. Support management of various contracts and agreements with these external stakeholders.
  • Participate in energy markets process integration, improvement, and strategic planning. Specifically assist in developing monthly hydroelectric energy forecasts, market product structuring & forward pricing, price correlation analysis and prepare monthly Water Conditions Variance Account reports.
  • Assist Supervisor with coordinating outage scheduling and provide market analysis for regional Operations staff. Working in your team to coordinate and consolidate data with integrated generation schedules and analyze day-ahead strategies.
  • Maintenance of Energy Markets manuals, policies, procedures, and communication changes will be an ongoing task.
  • Other duties as required.
     

Qualifications
 

  • Graduated anytime between 2023 up to and including Spring 2025 from a 4-year university degree in Engineering, Science, Business or equivalent.
  • 70% GPA (B-) or higher
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative and trouble-shoot
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
