Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Full Class 5F Manitoba Driver's license.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the province by ground and air transportation and stay overnight as required.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be physically capable to perform the duties that are associated with this position, including bending, twisting, and standing for extended periods of time and be able to lift and carry up to 45 kg (100lbs).
  • Must be able to work in all-weather environments, within work site hazards such as noise and dust, and wear personal protective equipment when required.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Completion of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma, Civil Technician Certificate OR Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma OR completion of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructures department Level 3 training courses (or working towards) OR an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety, Health and Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software package (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Effective written communication skills and ability to generate records and reports.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Experience conducting traffic counts and installing traffic monitoring equipment.

 

Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Monitoring Technician, the Lead Traffic Monitoring Technician works in an advanced technical environment requiring specialized technical ability and has Lead Hand responsibility for department staff on project sites. The Lead Traffic Monitoring Technician performs advanced technical functions to collect, compile and analyze traffic monitoring data, and is responsible for independent decisions related to monitoring and coordinating the construction of multiple traffic monitoring installations while ensuring department standards, specifications, policies, procedures and practices are followed. Precision and accuracy of work is essential to ensure quality traffic data output meeting the department’s needs for planning, design and programming.
