The Role:

  • To provide leadership, expert consultation advisory support on the development of evidence-informed educational or learning programming across a broad spectrum of public health related initiatives.
  • To provide consultative guidance to diverse partners/stakeholders and lend senior level pedagogical and/or technical expertise on a broad range of learning enrichment, experiential learning, and virtual learning offerings.
  • To provide guidance, mentorship and coaching to education specialists, and Public Health Ontario staff working to advance the development and implementation of educational and capacity building initiatives across multiple modalities.

Key Responsibilities –

  • Provide evidence-informed consultative guidance to a broad range of stakeholders on the design, development and implementation of programs to enrich learning and enhance development of critical competencies across the public health workforce
  • Provide technical and pedagogical guidance to help facilitate development of curriculum/training plans, experiential learning opportunities, interactive learning and evidence informed assessment initiatives
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative, technology-enabled learning programs including developing standards, guidelines, processes, roles and evidence-informed best practices across a broad range of learning modalities
  • Maintain responsibility for delivery of PHO-developed online learning based on adult education principles and best practices for online learning, including content, format and interactivity.
  • Coordinates development of internal PHO policies and best-practice procedures surrounding the work of education specialists and other affiliated professional and support staff on
  • Monitor and coordinate as appropriate education activities being undertaken by multiple departments; to develop training and support for other departments developing learning for their program area across virtual and other modalities as required.
  • Advance identification of educational and learning needs across program areas and facilitate the development and implementation of responsive learning initiatives and supports
  • Provide technical/pedagogical supervision to junior Education Specialists, including monitoring quality improvement, tracking implementation progress and providing feedback to the Manager, Capacity Building.
  • Plans and set goals and objectives for professional development and education activities for PHO staff, public health unit staff, frontline health care providers and students, within the assigned area to plan and conduct the framework for ongoing educational training programs to help build and support the capacity of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides guidance, mentorship and coaching to education specialists
  • Conducts evidence reviews, environmental scans and needs assessments that support identification of key drivers and critical success factors for PHOs professional education/scientific training programming
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and be informed of learning offerings of other agencies and institutions to facilitate coordination and partnerships, and avoid duplication of offerings.
  • Works with content experts to develop education curricula and programming and content for resource materials and presentations including e-learning.
  • Provides expertise in adult education to ensure the goals and objectives of the professional development/educational program are met and the appropriate technology, infrastructure and opportunities are leveraged for successful learning outcomes.
  • Develops and implements a plan for promoting educational offerings to target audiences, in collaboration with the KE Managers and Directors.
  • Keeps abreast of Education Science and professional development scientific research to ensure the use of an evidenced informed approach related to professional development and education.
  • Tracks and monitors service delivery for continuous quality improvement.
  • Develops metrics to evaluate education and training programs and conducts evaluation on education and training program processes and outcomes in consultation with KE Manager Evaluation and KE team
  • Develops and maintains strong collaborative relationships with other PHO staff working on technology-enabled learning issues and learning management systems including but not limited to staff of the IMIT on issues of access to and presentation of online education and delivery.
  • Collaborates with other professional development and education team members to ensure a consistent approach to educational programming across the organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
