Description:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
o university coursework in Special Education to meet the needs of students with
intellectual, physical, emotional and learning disabilities, i.e. diagnosis and remediation
of reading and math difficulties and Level B testing;
o experience developing and implementing IEPs;
o the ability and energy to work with multi-age groups and meet the needs of students
with a range of learning styles and abilities using a variety of teaching strategies;
o strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills to communicate with
students, staff, and parents in a team oriented approach to teaching and learning;
o demonstrated ability to motivate students and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
and to adapt curriculum to meet diverse student needs;
o knowledge and experience teaching the B.C. Secondary Curriculum;
o strong classroom management skills;
o qualifications and experience working with students with challenging behaviours;
o experience with RTI (Response to Intervention) systems;
o strong interest in innovation and inquiry; and
o ability to embed local Indigenous culture and ways of knowing into teaching practices.
