Laboratory Manager

 

Description:

The ideal candidate will provide strong leadership for our lab team members in Moncton as well as act as the main point of contact for testing by Organigram’s facilities. The Laboratory Manager will possess excellent organizational skills, problem solving and decision-making abilities, and a keen sense of urgency all while maintaining a positive, professional attitude in a fast paced and changing work environment.

 

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills coupled with a proven ability to lead staff.

While working with team members to develop their existing skills, the Lab Manager will manage and guide the Chemistry and Microbiology sub-departments to develop, improve, validate, and implement testing procedures.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead, support and mentor a multidisciplinary team consisting of technical experts, supervisors, technicians and assistants.
  • Create and build out lab strategy with budgeting for continued growth of the lab scope and responsibilities.
  • Project management of lab initiatives including leading efforts to achieve and maintain ISO17025 accreditation, and implementation and operation of LIMS.
  • Act as primary resource for lab related inquiries within Organigram
  • Act as contact point for sourcing and securing external lab resources and providing ongoing quality oversight of external lab relationships.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve issues, challenges and constraints that come up in the laboratories and champion corrective actions.
  • Coordinate all equipment related issues, such as sourcing, budgeting, purchasing, calibration, PM, and install and IQ/OQ/PQ
  • Help create stability protocols and facilitate stability testing.
  • Manage new product method validation development and equipment qualifications.
  • Assist with ongoing development and maintenance of the Quality Management System regarding the laboratories.
  • Manage creation of SOPs, tasks sheet, etc. related to laboratory activities to meet the requirements of the QMS/EU GMP
  • Help to identify abnormal results by analyzing root causes and developing corrective actions.
  • Support training on QMS, GLP, GMP, etc.
  • Monitor data trends, identify and facilitate changes to achieve specifications and targets.
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments in the cannabis testing space.
  • Responsible for lab scheduling, metrics and standards
  • Work with suppliers on equipment acquisition
  • Monitor and manage budgetary obligations.
  • Follow and manage adherence to Organigrams GLPs/GPPs/GMPs, SOPs, the Cannabis Act and associated Regulations.
  • Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with our best practices, policies, procedures, applicable acts and regulations.
  • Advocate and lead safe work practices and procedures.
  • Other tasks as required to pivot with business needs.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • BSc degree in Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, at minimum
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Laboratory Manager/Supervisor in a manufacturing environment (preferably food or pharmaceuticals), GLP, GMP
  • Experience with ISO 17025 standards and LIMS systems would be considered an asset.

  • Strong computer literacy & computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Well developed time-management working with a sense of urgency.

  • Well developed communication skills including listening, summarizing, probing, clarifying.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with a diverse group and within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver to specific deadlines and takes initiative with follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure.
