RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent is responsible for the following. Developing and documenting design concepts and engineering requirements, including coordination across disciplines Applying mechanical engineering principles to inform ongoing design efforts and validate designs Coordinating the manufacture and inspection of parts though the TRIUMF machine shop and external vendors to deliver on schedule and on budget Planning prototype testing and providing recommendations to push the limits of mechanical assemblies in extreme environments Reviewing and approving of technical documents such as specifications and drawings, Presenting technical content to internal and external audiences in design reviews Identifying the need for analysis that lies outside of the incumbent’s expertise and clearly communicating the problem and deliverables needed KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and plan work to deliver mechanical equipment and supporting documentation meeting customer’s needs. Experience applying rigorous mechanical engineering analysis in the areas of machine design, strength of materials, heat transfer and fluid mechanics Ability to coordinate field installation of equipment and commission and troubleshoot. Ability to identify key stakeholders and define technical design requirements Proficient oral and written communicator capable of building consensus among physicists, designers, engineers, and project managers Experience with the full mechanical engineering design cycle Demonstrated resourcefulness in identifying and defining inputs needed for design to proceed Proficiency in FEA, CAD, and preparation of mechanical drawings for manufacturing an asset.
