Description:

Identify, select, obtain, cite, abstract and index publications and research projects about northern Canada in all subjects Proofread all new database records, and proofread title, author and serial indexes on a semi-annual basis With the Data and Information Services Manager, develop, maintain and verify the ASTIS subject, geographic, and organizational (corporate authority) thesauri, and serial index. Retrospectively add newly created subject and geographic terms to existing records With the Data and Information Services Manager, develop bibliographic databases on particular subjects or geographic regions. Assume lead responsibility for special projects or bibliographies, as required With the Data and Information Services Manager, develop and maintain the ASTIS Indexing Manual Assist in the training and direction of new Information Analysts (for 6-12 months) and summer students, as required Educate users about the ASTIS database Develop and maintain personal knowledge of the earth, biological and social sciences and political and economic developments as they apply to northern Canada Apply knowledge of computer systems to efficiently carry out indexing using MINISIS, STEMMA, Microsoft Word, Windows, Canadiana and the Mercury Z39.50 Client; Internet research; and online resources. Maintain good working relations with University Library employees and a good working knowledge of the University Library Adapt and respond creatively and positively to a changing environment and to the stress of working for a contract-funded project Provide basic French titles and abstracts as needed Present, as required, at conferences and meetings, information about the ASTIS database Qualifications / Requirements: University degree or a Library Technician diploma; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Experience with library cataloguing or indexing Experience with data entry and database management Strong writing and communication skills (English required, French is beneficial) Highly proficient with MS Windows and Microsoft Office applications Knowledge of MINISIS software applications is an asset Knowledge of the Canadian Arctic, particularly its geography, is an asset Knowledge of museum and heritage studies is an asset
